This in a combination of painting, photo, printing and finally graffiti over the top. It is reworked from a painting that was a finalist in the 66th Blake Prize (2021).
Artist Statement:
This work re-interprets Michelangelo's Creation of Adam from the Sistine Chapel, isolating just the hands from the original composition and rendering them as graffiti on a grey wall. Over Adam's hand, a further layer of graffiti appears — tagging, personal responses, scribbles, symbols, and messages directed to God.
My work often draws on symbol, metaphor, and story. Here, Adam's hand represents humanity's response to God, while God's hand represents his continual reaching toward us. The tagging represents my own personal journey with faith — the wrestling, the wonder, and the expectation I have carried toward God.
This is print 1 of a series of 9. Each one in the series is unique, which is why they will be all listed separately.
Photo on 300gm paper. Oil print. Acrylic graffiti.
